Fish is the main source of protein of Malaysians. It is estimated that the fish intake of Malaysians is about 51 kilograms per year. Self-Esteem (SSR) rates have not reached 100%, where we still import fish that are not available in our oceans like salmon, trout and oceanic tuna.

The sources of our fish are from Marine Capture Fisheries, Aquaculture Fisheries and In-Land Fisheries.

The Department of Fisheries Malaysia has been responsible for ensuring that national fish supply is sufficient. Sustainable fisheries management to ensure that sustainable fish sources need to involve multiple parties. It is not just carried by the DOF alone.
